SANTA FE, NM (April XX) - Tirian Films and The Pentecost Group have announced the upcoming production of Flint, an adaptation of Louis L’Amour’s classic novel, set to begin filming in New Mexico later this year, starring Josh Holloway and written and directed by Ryan Whitaker.
Holloway takes on the lead role of James Kettleman, a ruthless East Coast businessman who returns to the unforgiving New Mexico frontier under the name Flint—the notorious killer who raised him. As he becomes entangled in a violent range war, his encounters with a strong-willed rancher, Nancy Kennigan, challenge him to reconsider the legacy he wants to leave behind.
Holloway recently made headlines with the announcement of Duster, an upcoming drama series from J.J. Abrams and LaToya Morgan, premiering on Max on May 15. This marks a reunion with Abrams, with whom he worked for six years on the hit ABC series Lost.
Holloway will also produce Flint alongside Ken Carpenter (The Shift, Finding You), Mark Pentecost (Florida Wild), Jerilyn Esquibel (The Unbreakable Boy) and Beau L’Amour, son of Louis L’Amour.
“The story of Flint is one I’ve wanted to tell for years,” says Holloway. “To play this incredible role and help bring it to the screen as a producer makes this project even more special. It'll be a new challenge, but one I am all in on.”
Flint marks the first collaboration for Tirian Films & The Pentecost Group. Tirian Films is the Nashville-based production shingle of writer/director Ryan Whitaker and producer Ken Carpenter. The Pentecost Group is a Florida based company led by financier and producer Mark Pentecost.
Tirian Films emerged from Whitaker and Carpenter’s collaboration on Surprised By Oxford, filmed in England in 2023. Whitaker was recently an executive producer, writer, and director on The Pendragon Cycle, a multi-part medieval series filmed in Hungary and Italy. Carpenter’s recent producing credits include The Shift, Between Borders, and Finding You. Flint marks the first feature under the Tirian Films banner, with additional projects in development, including an adaptation of G.K. Chesterton’s The Ball & The Cross, set to film in England in 2026.
“Bringing L’Amour’s action-packed, emotionally charged novel to life is an honor,” says Whitaker. “I’m thrilled to partner with our incredible producing team, including Josh, who was born to play this psychologically complex and physically demanding role.”
Carpenter adds, “To be linking arms with Mark and The Pentecost Group to tell this strong character-driven story against the sweeping backdrop of New Mexico is a filmmaker’s dream."
Louis L’Amour remains one of America’s most prolific and respected Western authors, with over 100 books and 250 short stories to his name, selling more than 320 million copies worldwide. His contributions to literature have been recognized with the Congressional Gold Medal, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, North Dakota’s Roughrider Award, and the MPTF Golden Boot Award.
“I have been a Louis L’ Amour fan for decades and have had a lifelong passion for Westerns,” says Pentecost. “Flint is everything I love about this genre: it’s thrilling, romantic, and ultimately redemptive. Audiences are in for a treat.”
Beau L’Amour continues, “For nearly 20 years, Josh and I have been looking for a way to bring my father’s novel Flint to the screen. Now, thanks to Tirian Films and The Pentecost Group, that dream is finally a reality.”
Holloway, Whitaker, and the L’Amour Estate are represented by United Talent Agency; Tirian Films by Samuel Curphey; and The Pentecost Group by Jerry Ogle. UTA’s Heartland division packaged and raised the financing for the film. UTA Independent Film Group will be handling North American sales.
